"In penance for their uprising, each district shall offer up a male and a female between the ages of 12 and 18 at a public 'reaping'." With the conclusion of the Dark Days, Panem has begun a new era of prosperity and peace. In order to keep the districts in line, to ensure that the bloody atrocities of war will never occur again, the government has proposed the Hunger Games, to punish the districts for their sins. The victor of each game will be rewarded with fame, wealth and so much more, a symbol of triumph amid darkness, violence and sacrifice. The reaping for the first Hunger Games has begun.
